Online Advertising Comes of Age

Dave Robertson

It's taken a while, but online advertising has finally eclipsed television advertising in terms of expenditure. Online spending grew 4.6% to £1.752bn in the first half of 2009, while TV spending shrank 16.1% to £1.639bn. Overall advertising fell 16% compared with the same period in 2008, said the study by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. The IAB also noted that the UK is the first economy to have swung in this way.

It's interesting to see the Internet coming of age as an advertising medium, especially given the twenty years or so it has taken to get there.

At Chrobis we like online advertising because it's simple and effective. We can easily see what works and what doesn't and how to improve a campaign. Google is without doubt the biggest player, taking a massive proportion of £1.05 billion that customers spend on advertising online in the last year. It has such a massive market share and it's what everyone thinks about when they want to search the web.

So we offer Google AdWords and online marketing to all our clients, and we've seen great returns. Unlike other companies, we start small with the lowest budget we can and work up to get you the maximum value for money. We don't believe in just throwing money at a problem.

As well as expert use of Google advertising, we can also take a look at how effective your site is at holding and making money out of visitors. Remember that adverts can only get customers interested; like the old saying: "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." Your site needs to be interesting and regularly updated to make visitors feel like it has some substance and is worth investing their time and money in.

Combining a variety of technologies and internet expertise, we can ensure that your site receives the traffic it deserves and the sales you want. Interested? Give us a call today!
